Llawryglyn Village Association

The small village of Llawryglyn is part of the Trefeglwys community and has its own Village Community Association and a very strong village community spirit. There are a number of interest groups in the village and an annual Summer Party has been held for many years. This is a well-attended and very enjoyable community event bringing together residents and their  families and providing opportunities for new residents to meet established villagers. Association funds are used to cover the costs of this event so that it is free for Llawryglyn residents. In the past, Association funds had been used to hire a catering company to provide a hog roast or barbecue. This set back the Association around £450 with rising costs each year.

In 2019 the Llawryglyn Village Association decided to bid for funding from the Trefeglwys Community Council to buy two barbecues of their  own and  were delighted to be awarded £500 towards the cost.

Every year since then, apart from 2020 due to COVID, Llawryglyn has enjoyed the benefits of their own barbecues for their Summer Party, a major fundraising event for the Village Association as the Association no longer has to spend hundreds of pounds on catering companies.

The Village Association purchased its own marquee many years ago to enable the Summer Party to go ahead in all but the very worst stormy summer weather! In recent years, the marquee has also been used by the Craft Club and the History Group at the Trefeglwys show. By 2024 the wear and tear of fifteen years of use was beginning to take its toll. The Llawryglyn Village Association decided to once again bid for Wind Farm Community Funding from Trefeglwys Community Council. In  2025 the Village  Association was delighted with the £800 awarded and bought a new marquee for the Llawryglyn Village Association Summer Party and duck race, used for the first time on 28th June.

The Llawryglyn community very much appreciates the funding it has received thanks to the Trefeglwys Community Council. It has enabled us to fulfill the objects of the Llawryglyn  Village Community Association as specified in its constitution: ‘to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Llawryglyn in a common effort to advance education and provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.’

Residents really appreciated the Summer Party 2025:

“Thank you everyone for a magical afternoon. Really appreciate all your efforts. It was so friendly and fun. The grandchildren really enjoyed it all.”

“Well done everyone! Thank you for a lovely afternoon.”

“In remote, rural parts of the UK it is very hard to raise funding for various causes, so it is fabulous to see our local council fund items for events to keep the community close and to support experiences so everyone gets the chance to socialise with each other. Thank you to the Llawr-y-Glyn Association for organising a wonderful summer event and thank you to the Trefeglwys Community Council for funding the barbecues to make this event so much fun.” Robin Breese-Davies

“The annual summer BBQ is an important part of village life in Llawryglyn and last year we introduced the duck race along the River Trannon. The support of the Trefeglwys Community Council has enabled this tradition to continue and thrive for which we are hugely grateful. We were really proud to unveil our new marquee which will last us for many years to come. The Llawryglyn Village Association would like to say a huge ‘thank you’!” Andy Gill, Chair of the Association.
